Best Bakeries in Gràcia, Barcelona: A Baker's 2026 Guide
Many of the "Best of" lists for Gràcia are very out of date in 2026, and since so many great places have opened up in the central Gràcia area in the last few years, I wanted to create a new resource for anyone exploring the area. A quick disclaimer: I'm a baker, not a critic, so take this as one baker's honest opinion of his own neighborhood, not a definitive ranking.
People ask me all the time where else I'd go for bread or something sweet in Gràcia on my days off from Oso Grizzly. Luckily we're blessed with plenty of great bakeries in the area, so here's my list of the places I'd go myself, organized by what each one does especially well, not ranked, not paid for. And since Gràcia is a small, walkable neighborhood, everything on this list is close enough to hit a few in one afternoon.
Sourdough bread
Sourdough is what I do here at Oso Grizzly, using our own rye/spelt/wheat sourdough starter named "Grizzlito," so I've tasted a lot of the options around the neighborhood. If I'm curious what someone else is doing with a sourdough, here's where I go:
-
Origo: Their sourdough is one of the most talked-about things they make, alongside their cardamom and cinnamon buns.
-
Pa de Kilo: Serious bread people. Their sourdough, croissants, and weekend sandwiches are all favorites. They opened a second location in Gràcia after leaving a mark on El Raval's bakery scene.
-
Handy Bakery: Newer to the neighborhood (they opened in 2025), but their sourdough already holds its own alongside their carrot cake and banana bread.
Cinnamon rolls and sweet rolls
This one's personal, since cinnamon rolls and cardamom buns are our star product here at Oso Grizzly, inspired by my time working in the Nordic countries. But Gràcia has real competition for these rolls, and I mean that as a compliment to the neighborhood:
-
Origo: Their cinnamon and cardamom buns are genuinely excellent, right alongside their sourdough.
-
Candela Canela: A whole shop built around cinnamon rolls, several flavors and toppings.
-
Flor de Gràcia: Their croissants, focaccia, and sweet brioche rolls are what people rave about most, so it's worth a stop if you're doing a cinnamon roll crawl through the neighborhood.
-
Oso Grizzly: This is what I set out to do best, so I'd be lying if I left us off our own specialty. Our cinnamon rolls and cardamom buns are what people ask for most.
Gluten-free and alternative-flour bread
-
Glutery: A fully dedicated gluten-free bakery. Their empanadas, focaccia, and cinnamon rolls are all gluten-free and all popular. We actually send people here ourselves when our customers need more gluten-free options than what we offer (our own brownie is made with gluten-free ingredients, but our kitchen handles wheat daily, so it's not safe for celiacs).
-
Forn de Pa Fortino: Worth a mention on this list. Their khorasan wheat bread and other specialty flours are worth trying if you want something different from standard wheat.
Traditional Catalan bread
-
Forn La Sitja: Same baker, same address, since 2004. Their panellets and traditional Catalan breads and pastries are as classic as it gets in this neighborhood.
-
Forn Mistral: One of the few bakeries in the area with the regulated official IGP pa de pagès català label, and the family has actually won recognition for best in Catalonia before. Ensaïmades and croissants are worth the visit too.
Pastries and croissants
-
Handy Bakery: Their carrot cake is the one people talk about most, alongside their sourdough and banana bread.
-
Morreig: French-style pastries beautifully crafted, if that's what you're after.
Chocolate-based desserts
-
Pastisseria Montserrat: My go-to mention if someone's after something chocolate-focused, though their croissants and traditional Catalan pastries are worth knowing about too.
Cakes and pies
-
Miel Postres: Custom-designed cakes, if you want something built around a specific look or theme.
-
Oso Grizzly: Classic American-inspired celebration and birthday cakes are one of the things we've done since day one here. We specialize in seasonal pumpkin pies, apple pies and pecan pies for the autumn holidays.
-
Cosa Bake & Coffee: A rotating selection of handmade cakes, by the slice or whole, so it's worth checking back since what's available changes.
Cheesecake
-
Krem: Cheesecake is what they're known for, full stop.
-
PastéBCN: Cheesecake and carrot cake are their specialty.
Italian pastry
-
Pasticceria di Gràcia: Genuinely Italian, not just Italian-inspired. Try the cannoli and sfogliatelle.
Portuguese pastries
-
A Casa Portuguesa: Pastel de nata, quiche, and other Portuguese classics.
Vegan pastries
-
Alterna Mostrador: Vegan medialunas, croissants, and danishes, if you need fully plant-based options in the neighborhood. I've personally tried the vegan medialuna and can't get enough of it.
-
Oso Grizzly: We've got vegan options of our own too: our blueberry sweet coca, our coca de forner (a traditional Catalan anise-and-sugar coca bread), and vegan sandwich options as well. Not the main reason to visit us, but worth knowing about if you're looking.
Focaccia and sandwiches
-
Oso Grizzly: Our artisan sea salt focaccia forms the base of our focaccia sandwiches. It's an integral part of what we do here, not an afterthought.
-
POPIS: Smoked meat focaccia sandwiches. A different angle on focaccia than what we do, worth trying.
-
Pa de Kilo: Worth a second mention here too. They run a rotating menu of specialty sandwiches on weekends, on top of their sourdough.
Bagels
-
Bagel Boy: Specializing in New York-style bagels in Gràcia.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this list ranked? No. It's organized by specialty, not ranked best to worst. A few places show up more than once because they're genuinely good at more than one thing.
Does anyone on this list pay to be featured? No. These are places I'd actually recommend to a friend, nothing more.
Why isn't [some other bakery] on here? Vila de Gràcia has a lot of good bakeries, and this list reflects what I personally know and recommend, not every bakery in the neighborhood. If you think we're missing someone great, let us know.
Where's Oso Grizzly on this list? Right where it belongs, under sourdough, cinnamon rolls, cakes, vegan pastry, focaccia and sandwiches, the things we actually specialize in. We didn't put ourselves everywhere on this list on purpose. Curious what else we make? Check out our full menu, or see what our customers have to say on our reviews page.
