The winners of this year's decorated street contest were announced Wednesday, August 19, at Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. Of the 23 streets and squares that competed, first place went to Plaça de Rovira i Trias with "Batiscaforoviruskas," a tribute to Mallorcan band Antònia Font's 2006 album Batiscafo Katiuskas, built around an undersea theme with over 9,000 hanging strips forming the ceiling (435 points). Second place went to Carrer de Mozart for "L'hivernacle encantat" (The Enchanted Greenhouse), inspired by Ciutadella Park's umbracle (394 points). Third place went to Carrer de la Llibertat for "Argonath, Aranyerra i Mòrdor," a Lord of the Rings tribute built jointly by five committees, one of five streets that shared this year's Lord of the Rings theme (377 points).
Fiestas de Gràcia (officially Festa Major de Gràcia) is Barcelona's biggest neighborhood festival, transforming the streets of Gràcia into hand-built, hand-decorated art installations for a full week each August. We're right on Plaça del Sol, the festival's main stage, so here's our guide to the neighborhood during festival week, along with a look back at how this year's edition went.
This year's festival ran Saturday, August 15 through Friday, August 21, 2026, with the opening pregó ceremony on Friday, August 14, at Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia.
The 2026 program included more than 900 free activities across the neighborhood, and for the first time, five street committees debuted a shared, unified decoration theme across their streets.
Plaça del Sol: the heart of the action of Fiesta de Gràcia
Plaça del Sol as Plaça del Folk: for the 22nd year running, our square became the festival's main music stage, run by Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius, with nightly concerts from August 15–21 spanning folk, rumba, and traditional Catalan music, including a "nit tranquil·la" lower-volume night on the 17th and the closing gralla dance with Els Quatrevents on the final night.

Every year since 2005, Plaça del Sol transforms into "Plaça del Folk," the festival's main music stage, run by Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius. Since we're directly on the plaza, it's one of the easiest places to start or end a walk through the festival, whenever you're visiting.

The Vila de Gràcia becomes a pedestrian zone each night from 21:00 to 5:00 during festival week, with vehicle access restricted. By metro, lines L3, L4, and L5 all serve the area (note: the Gràcia FGC station is out of service between August 11–23). Expect some bus route changes, so check tmb.cat for details closer to your visit.
What's the Correfoc, and is it safe to bring kids?
The Correfoc is a traditional fire-run through the streets with fireworks and costumed "devil" performers. It's a real spectacle, but participants are advised to wear cotton clothing and eye protection if joining in.
Where can I cool off during the festival?
August in Barcelona runs hot, and the festival itself recommends staying hydrated and seeking shade. Beyond the city's public water fountains, Oso Grizzly is right on Plaça del Sol with soft drinks, iced coffee, iced matcha, and fresh lemonade.
