After eight years in a temporary tent on Passeig de Sant Joan, the market is returning to its original building following a full renovation, reportedly around €38 million, including a rebuilt iron structure, a new ceramic-tiled roof with solar panels, and a Consum supermarket in the basement.
The renovated market will hold 65 stalls in total: 45 for fresh food inside the main hall, 10 non-food stalls along the exterior, and 10 specialty spaces. One of the basement's lower floors has even been set aside for local neighborhood associations, alongside the market's logistics and storage. The reopening has been delayed several times since the project began in 2018, so while October is the current target, exact timing could still shift.

For eight years, foot traffic in this part of Gràcia has leaned east toward Passeig de Sant Joan and west toward the Mercat de la Llibertat. With the market back on Travessera de Gràcia, that's expected to shift back to the central Vila de Gràcia, bringing more people through Carrer de Torrijos, Carrer del Planeta, and Plaça del Sol on their way to and from market shopping.
